About

My name is Kastoori Barua. I am based in London, Ontario, where I am a doctoral fellow in the Department of English and Writing Studies at the University of Western Ontario.

As a researcher, I am invested in studying the nexus between visual aesthetics and literary depictions of migration, belonging, and identity through various philosophical lenses of hospitality. I am more broadly interested in investigating biopolitics and its repercussions on international borders and laws that contribute to the field of cultural studies.

Formerly an art curator and critic, my interest lies in hyper-contemporary conceptual arts and the artistic representation/ framing of migrants in post-migration circumstances. In particular, my intellectual and professional endeavor is to identify or create ways of wedding theory to praxis in the form of a visual language of awareness and support that can percolate to the civil masses, thus re-introducing a politico-philosophical valence to art.
